Michael A. Rule
As founder and Managing Attorney of RuleLegal, I continue the diverse practice and maintain the core practice group developed over the past 28 years as a partner at some of the world's most distinguished law firms. Previously a partner at Dentons, Pepper Hamilton and Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, I have a national practice and regularly serve as lead transactions counsel, IP counsel and outside General Counsel to both public and private companies. In this capacity, I primarily advise clients with respect to their corporate, licensing, intellectual property and litigation support needs.
My practice encompasses the negotiation and documentation of both buyer side and seller side stock and asset deals, mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, supply and distribution agreements, and all stages of clients’ IP portfolios, including initial searches and clearance, USPTO pursuit and maintenance of registrations, cease and desist activities, protection of proprietary technology, and related transactions and litigation support. I also actively represent clients in the counseling and development of mass media campaigns, public advertising, internet communications matters, and FDA and other regulatory guidance.
Prior to my law firm affiliations, I spent several years as in-house Transactions and IP counsel and subsequently Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the publicly-traded Prandium, Inc, and Koo Koo Roo Enterprises, Inc. This in-house experience has provided me with unique insight on delivering legal services in a practical, business-oriented manner.

With over 13 years of legal experience, I have established myself as a preeminent corporate transactional attorney, handling a wide variety of corporate matters ranging from asset and stock acquisitions and sales, real estate purchases and leasing, cross-border transactions, franchising (representing both franchisors and franchisees), trademarks and trade dress, and compliance in advertising and promotions. With over 18 years of experience as a Paralegal, I have focused on Intellectual Property Law working with Patent Prosecution, Trademark Prosecution as well as Corporate and Litigation matters. I was a Senior Paralegal with many large law firms, including Dentons US LLP, Pepper Hamilton, LLP and Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth.
I have also handled docketing for all types of matters, including trademark, patent and litigation matters. I provide support to the practice in a variety of ways to track and maintain the registrations for clients.
